These days many people find themselves on the road for work, play or study overseas. But getting access to quality health care while traveling, requires some advanced planning. You can do this in 3 simple steps.
Step 1: Find out what your current health insurance plan covers while traveling by checking out the insurance company website or calling the customer service number.
Step 2: Look in to supplemental coverage for the period of time you will be away. Travel medical insurance may be purchased to cover the cost of things traditional health insurance may not cover such as the cost of being transported to a hospital at home (repatriation), search and rescue and emergency evacuation services.
Step 3: Identify hosptials, doctors and pharmacies at your destination before you go. This information may be obtained from your insurance company, a travel medicine clinic, the American Embassy or your destination hotel.
