About Me
-
For 25 years I have been successfully providing freedom from allergies and asthma. Tens of thousands of patients have sought my care, or have been referred from friends, family or providers from around the DC/Baltimore area, looking for relief. These chronic illnesses are the number one reason for absence from work and school. My goal? True improvement in quality of life, wherever life happens to take them, in whatever circumstance they find themselves in. Enabling patients full participation in activities at home, work and play, without distraction from troublesome symptoms, while minimizing medication use and resultant side effects.
Over the years, my practice style has remained the same: As a famous allergist once said, "First, the patient, second the patient, third, the patient…" I believe in applying the most modern, evidenced-based knowledge with compassion, empathy and humility, in a warm and approachable manner. I've been quoted in the past, "Time carefully listening to patients - there is no substitute." I believe that even more so today, as providers are pressed to see more and more patients, and do more and more tests. Often times, less is more; do the right test, the first time. It takes both knowledge and experience to find the right balance.
In the last few years, there has been an explosion of knowledge in the field of immunology (the science behind allergy) that has led to rapid and fundamental changes the way we approach allergy and asthma. Our recommendations in some areas (such as food allergy) are completely changed from only a few years ago. Therapies are also rapidly changing; the tools in our toolbox today are a far cry from what was available a decade or so ago. Remaining involved at a teaching institution allows me to keep abreast of these new changes, and emerging therapies.
However, I am first and foremost a clinician: my priority is caring for patients like you. Experience gained after a lifetime of closely listening, observing and treating thousands of patients with allergic conditions gives practical wisdom; hearing how an individual experiences illness in their own words - recognition of patterns and nuances - guides interpretation of tests and tailoring of treatments that are reliably effective - for you, in your particular situation.
What does this all mean for you? Is it allergy? Asthma? Sinus? Blood Tests? Skin tests? What about mold? Is it something I'm eating? Let us get to know you, evaluate you, and then let us share what we've learned from treating thousands of patients just like you. We will review what is known from current scholarly literature, what has been shown typically effective (evidence- based medicine), but more importantly – share the wisdom to recognize when "standard guidelines" would be inappropriate for you, with your lifestyle or living situation, even making matters worse.
Come see our bright, modern, comfortable, and easily accessible office, and meet our friendly, caring and experienced office staff (where Shelley greets you by name).
We are a small, independent solo practice, within an hour of the DC/Baltimore metro; gives me the most flexibility and ability to tailor visits to your individual needs www.annapolisallergy.com.
Let us map out a treatment plan, so that allergy and asthma do not interrupt your life. Let us help you – come give us a call.
