About Me

Care Philosophy
  • I get tremendous satisfaction from teaching younger physicians. I discovered as an advanced in my training that I was most satisfied when I had an interesting patient in front of me, and an interested trainee beside me. Over the years, I've taught over 1,500 medical students, and over 200 residents in the areas of medicine, geriatrics, and palliative care. I chose to come to Grand Strand Medical Center to work with the Level 1 Trauma Center to develop a program for Geriatric consultations of older patients admitted to the trauma service. Older patients admitted with trauma have high rates of complications, especially delirium, and we have demonstrated that geriatric consultation can reduce these complication rates, helping patients leave the hospital sooner. In addition to a busy trauma center, Grand Strand gives me an opportunity to create a fellowship program to train physicians in the specialty of palliative medicine.
