Dr. Donkor's Background


Charan Donkor, M.D., is a Board-certified general surgeon and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in weight-loss surgery and has extensive training in robotic and laparoscopic surgery for minimally invasive and bariatric procedures, including the Da Vinci Surgical System and the SPIDER Surgical System. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, and his medical degree from the Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles. His postgraduate training includes an internship in general surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, and residencies in general surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and at Columbia University/Harlem Hospital in New York. He then completed a fellowship in the Advanced Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery program at Baptist Health. Dr. Donkor is a member of the American Board of Surgery, American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, International Hepatopancreatobiliary Association and the American Medical Association. He is currently an assistant professor of surgery at Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
