It's 2005 and I'm enjoying dinner at a Manhattan restaurant with some friends. Suddenly my right eye starts to burn and the only relief is to splash cold water on it. The relief is temporary and next morning I begin two years of dabbing my eye while searching for an ophthalmologist who could help me. I see more than ten different ophthalmologists and finally I meet Dr. Belgorod. He stems the symptoms of scleritis and saved the sight of my right eye. A few years later he successfully performed exacting cataract surgery on that same eye. Underlying these successful results (as well as others) is a continual concern for my wellbeing as evidenced by his thorough examinations; by his taking copious notes; by making progressive drawings of any existing eye problem; by his taking whatever time necessary to answer my questions. These are part of the pattern I have come to rely upon and no matter what my ocular problem was, I always felt better after seeing him. When it comes to my sight I may not be an ordinary patient. Thanks to Dr. Belgorod I have an extraordinary ophthalmologist who practices medicine like it should be practiced.
