I have PTSD from a sexual trauma so anything gynecological is super tough for me. I don't have children so never went through all that pregnant women experience. So basic pap smears / exams was all I had to tolerate until I aged into perimenopause. I first went to "the best in town" OBGYN and ended up truly disappointed. He was OK in person and then follow up was poor. So I decided I needed a second opinion. Dr. Perfilio Edwards not only spent a significant amount of time with me because she could tell it was traumatic to even consider additional exams. BUT she ALSO educated me in a way that no other doctor ever has about my options and what treatments are out there. Not just the treatments to address my current symptoms. But also all of the advances in treating the issues that come along with sexual trauma. I know the psychiatric end but had no idea there was so much on the 'medical' end. And it was all no pressure education - clearly a trauma informed physician!
