Why You Should Stop Sipping on Soda

Need a reason to let the soda fizzle out of your diet? Drinking today’s Aging Potion -- sugary sodas and beverages – can get you in big trouble. You might damage your telomeres, those protective bits of DNA at the end of your chromosomes, speeding up the natural aging process and making it more likely you’ll develop inflammation, insulin resistance and even shorten your life.

Are you thinking, “I can’t do that!” Dr. Mike had a super-soda habit and beat his (he gave up sugar and sugar substitutes in his coffee at the same time) thanks to the intervention of Dr. and Mrs. Oz. Here are three tricks to help you kick the habit too:

  1. Mix ½ gallon of water with lemons, limes, oranges, pomegranate and grapefruit -- any or all -- every day. Refill your BPA-free water bottle throughout the day.
  2. Post on your refrigerator door: ONE 20 oz. sweet soda = ~250 calories; I can burn them off with a 5-mile walk or a 50-minute run. Better choice -- just drink lemon or lime water.
  3. And remember: No more soda or sugared beverages (unless you are doing over 2 hours of continuous cardio). Dropping the bad habit can help you lose weight, ease depression, improve your love life and achieve a much younger RealAge!
