A lot of people ask me what they should eat if they have diabetes, but I think a better question to ask is how can you change your thinking about diet.
[MUSIC PLAYING] Because I find that when people go to an endocrinologist or to any doctor about their diabetes,
frequently they approach it as though they're going in to see the principal. You know, they're feeling badly about what they've done. They feel as if they've got to apologize or say that they're
going to change their behavior. So people tend to think about diet and diabetes in terms of deprivation, whereas I would think
about it in terms of reward. You are rewarding yourself by eating in a healthy way that's going to make you healthier, make you feel better,
make you live longer, et cetera. And I would make small changes-- not beat yourself up, not feel as though you can never
have something that's a bit of a treat, but always look at that as something that you can have in small amounts. [MUSIC PLAYING]
