We spoke with Bridget McCormick, RD, with Medical City Fort Worth in Texas, about her go-to breakfast and what makes a good dietitian.

Fun Fact: I have a twin sister.

What made you decide to go into your medical field?
I love food and science. How food affects our overall health is so fascinating to me. I thought about becoming a chef, but then I got into the nutrition program and fell in love with it.

Do you have any favorite health apps?
MyFitnessPal and CalorieKing because they put your whole day into perspective in terms of what you’re eating.

Your go-to breakfast?
I love making an egg-white English muffin sandwich. It’s really easy, and has good carbohydrates and a lean protein. I cook the eggs in the microwave, toast the English muffin and sometimes even add Canadian bacon or a slice of cheese to it, and then I’m on my way.

How do you like to de-stress?
I like to run or take a bath.

What's the hardest thing about your job?
We are giving our clients the education and awareness they need, but our success is determined by how they take it and use it in their lives. Not having that control can be hard.

And the best?
Interacting with people and debunking myths about nutrition is the best part of my job. Nutrition can be very confusing and overwhelming for a lot of people. We break it down and simplify it for them, so that our clients can make decisions on their own, and that’s really rewarding.

What makes a good dietitian?
Patience, attention to detail and being able to ask the right questions to get to the bottom of how people eat. Even in the clinical fields, figuring out what might be the cause of underlying conditions is a part of it.

If you couldn’t be a dietitian, what would you be?
A baker. I know that sounds so contradictory, but I love to bake. Everything in moderation!
