Dobbins recently launched her nutrition communications business Sound Bites, Inc. where she leverages sound science and smart nutrition to help people enjoy healthier food that still tastes great. Dobbins also works for NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston where she is the Prenatal Nutrition Coordinator at the Center for Maternal & Fetal Health. She counsels clients on prenatal nutrition, diabetes, glucose monitoring and insulin administration; teaches classes for “multiples”; and helps conduct obesity research. Dobbins is also an instructor at Kendall College Culinary School in Chicago and a national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association - ADA).
With more than 20 years of experience and a regular guest on Chicago TV, Dobbins is frequently invited to speak to both health professionals and the public. She is certified in both Adult Weight Management and Child & Adolescent Weight Management by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and has been published in the “Journal of Nutrition Education” and “The ADA Manual of Clinical Dietetics."
Previously, Dobbins was the Corporate Dietitian for Jewel-Osco (SuperValu) supermarkets where she launched their “Nutrition In Focus” consumer education program in 2000. She has also worked as the Director of Nutrition Affairs for the Midwest Dairy Council and a media spokesperson for the National Dairy Council. In 2004-2005, Dobbins hosted a weekly segment called “Heartland Health Tips” on the nationally syndicated US Farm Report TV show with Max Armstrong and Orion Samuelson.
Dobbins was named Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year in 2004 by the Illinois Dietetic Association and Outstanding Diabetes Educator of the Year in 2011 by the Chicago LNG of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She received her graduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993.
