Bio

I have been active all my life and participated in every sport available to girls at the time I was growing up. I competed on championship basketball, softball and tennis teams in elementary school through high school and varsity basketball in college.  These were the early days of the female athlete and they were not always easy ones for us pioneers.  But I like to think that I had in some small way helped pave the road for the full participation in sport that girls enjoy today.  After college I coached girls softball for over 8 years, earning numerous league titles.  I continued to play team sports well into my 50's.  But, nowadays, I am an avid alpine skier, a cyclist, kyaker, a retired school teacher, and bit of a gym rat, who is incredibly excited about helping others become fit for life.  I once saw a decal on the back of paraplegic’s sit-ski that read: “I want to live until I die.”  That resonated with me; that is exactly what I want as well.

Philosophy:  It is well documented that as we age “getting physical” has a great impact on our emotional and physical health.  In fact if there ever was a fountain of youth, exercise would be it.  As a fitness trainer I would love to help seasoned adults reclaim their vigor, to once again engage in the activities that they may have put aside while raising a family or to prepare them for activities they have always dreamed of doing but for one reason or another never took the plunge.  I would partner with clients to help clarify their goals whether they be shedding pounds, improving general fitness, increasing strength, fostering balance or perhaps even preparing them to run their first 10K.  Once goals are identified a personalized plan will be prepared, all the while being mindful of possible medical restrictions or physical challenges as well as some potential uneasiness about engaging in fitness training for the first time.   Once the fitness plan is in place and training begins, I will provide all the support, knowledge and motivation necessary for them to develop into the vigorous, healthy adults they have hoped to become.
