I am a Registered Nurse practicing at the bedside in a critical care unit. I recently completed my Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership and I am in the process of completing my dissertation concerning the effect of Authentic leadership on the Registered Nurse practicing at the bedside. My quest to truly understanding the relationship between authentic leadership and the process of creating healthy work environments led me to becoming a professional development and life coach. Coaching has had a very positive effect on my role as an RN when dealing with patients, family members and co-workers. Recently a family member was trying to make decisions concerning her mother. As a coach I was able to step out of the role of expert. In coaching the client is always the expert and the answer lies within the client. As a coach my role is to help the client create a clearing leading towards self awareness and authenticity.
