Bio

Thank you for visiting my ShareCare page.

I have been a fitness professional for close to 20 years and a virtual fitness coach for over 10 years.  I am a certified NASM trainer with advanced specializations in corrective exercise, performance enhancement and weight management.

I have worked with clients in a gym setting since becoming a professional at the age of 18.  In my mid 20's I began managing health clubs, fitness professionals and doing something I call training trainers!  A little over 10 years ago I started working as a virtual fitness coach for a supplement company helping clients via fax, email and phone set up fitness programs.  5 years ago my wife and I launched our own virtual fitness company (Forster Fitness) in which we coached people via our website and in person.

I started competing as a bodybuilder by the age of 17 and by the age of 23 I won the state title in my weight class in Ohio.  18 months later I placed 6th at the 2000 NPC Nationals as a heavyweight.  One year later in preparation for the Nationals I had a major pec tear and never was same.

About 6 years ago I made a decision to change my fitness career and became NASM certified.  As they say the rest is history and hold many advanced NASM certifications and am responsible for successfully training close to 100 individuals who wanted to become a fitness professionals.  All of these professionals are NASM certified.

My wife is a wonderful woman who I am madly in love with.  We have 3 children, Aenea (8), Karis (4) & Rocky (2).  We live in Northern Kentucky and live a life that we love.  My wife and I also have a fitness ministry TEAM NWA that we are extremely passionate about.

I have worked and successfully virtually coached hundreds of people and I hope I get the opportunity to help you.

Why am I having so much trouble losing weight?

The answer lies in the Law of Thermodynamics which states that your weight will be determined long term by the relation between calories consumed versus calories expended.

Time and time again I hear people say they eat healthy or they exercise and make it a blanket statement.  It is very important to

Does TV contribute to childhood obesity?

I think it does for two reasons.

    1) A child burns less calories when resting and because they are less active they have more time to think of food.  The calorie balance is changed and have a greater liklihood to intake more calories than burnt.

    2) It sets a pattern for their life.  As a child if they

    How important are training partners?

Training partners can be very helpful as it can help provide extra motivation and accountibility.

I will say that there are several people who enjoy training by themselves.  For all the motivation, encouragement, accountability and community that a partner provides training by yourself can also be a

Why should I commit to 30 minutes of exercise a day?

I think you should commit to 30 minutes of exercise per day because 30 minutes is managable for most people.  1 hr seems too daunting, 1 hr seems too much but 30 minutes seems reasonable.  For people who are trying to develop healthy habits having realistic expectations are very important.

    Most people

What foods can help me boost my metabolism?

What I consider to be your metabolism is your resting metabolic rate.  This rate is the amount of calories that your body burns to perform basic metabolic functions.  Just resting your body burns calories and in order to live your body needs fuel to function.

The release of energy at rest is sufficient only for the functioning of the vital

Why should I avoid eating junk food?

All wonderful comments, I have a philosophy that I follow called Nutrient Density vs Calorie Density.  Everything I eat I think is this food caloricly dense or nutrient dense.

When foods are nutrient dense they have a greater volume, less calories and more nutrients.  When foods are caloricly dense

What are the keys to weight loss?

Become aware.  Being blind leads to excuses, being aware leads to change.  Many people believe they are active, many people believe they eat well but how do they really know?

Most people are shocked when they actually log their food and track their caloric consumption or activity outputted.  The reality is

Do all health clubs run the same personal training system?

All gyms vary greatly in the personal training programs.  Unfortuantely most gyms will bring in less credited trainers because their cost of paying their trainers is going to be less.  In order to attract the best talent you have to pay talent appropriately.  Most gyms nowadays do not pay their t

How do I motivate myself to start exercising?

All wonderful answers, one thing I always tell me clients is to focus on the 5 pillars of goal setting.

Having a vision, strategy, belief, persistence and accountability.

Lets start with the first.  If you spend ample time having a clear vision for what you want to accomplish and be crystal clear about that

Will I feel deprived if I change my diet and lifestyle?

It is possible but if you do you know something is not right.  If you are losing fat one thing you are to remember is you have to be in a calorie deficit and any deficit may bring up feelings of being deprived to some degree, but this is completely normal.

Monitoring your food and activity is so important

Which exercises quickly work the entire body?

Most machines in a gym are easy because they generally will have the lowest risk but are not the best for becoming more functional or working the entire body.  Total body exercises generally will have higher risks because they make you use more overall body function and can put you at greater risk

What are the characteristics of successful weight losers?

I would also say that successful weight losers also are aware of what they are doing.  With anything else when you the open the eyes of people and show they reality their perspective on things changes.  With weight loss people think and try to eat healthy and exercise but when they actually track

How can I read food labels?
Also pay attention to the ingredient list on the side of the label.  The ingredients are listed by weight so the most prominent ingredients by weight are listed in order.  It will give you a great snapshot to what the food contains simply by what the ingredients are that are listed by weight.  Full Post

What are the basic rules of healthy weight loss?

I have clients pay attention to two things when beginning a weight loss program

    1. Be Ready... Have Faith... Forgive Yourself!
    2. The 5 steps to goal setting

Be Ready... Have Faith... Forgive Yourself!!!

Are the dried fruits in fruitcake healthy?

Yes do not let the word "fruit" fool you.  Same with fruit juices.

I am speaking from a fat loss and weight loss standpoint but just because it says fruit it does not mean that it will help you lose weight.  Dried fruit and fruit juices are more dense in calories and the more dense your calories the
