Wendy Kooken

Bio

Wendy Kooken, PhD, RN, completed her PhD in Nursing in October of 2008. She has extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and master’s nursing courses. She has a varied clinical background in post-anesthesia care, blood and tissue services nursing, and working with pregnant and parenting adolescents and children at risk for abuse. Dr. Kooken is currently a post-doctoral fellow on the IUSONs T-32. Her research is focused on vigilance in the adult cancer population, their families, and oncology nurses. She believes that by focusing on vigilance partnerships between patients, families, and nurses, patient outcomes, such as quality of life and safety can be improved.

    This is an interesting question; the answer depends on who you are as a person. The word nurture means to nourish or is about training and upbringing (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nurture): the definition leads me to believe that we can learn to nurture or nourish ourselves.
