Dr. Sean McCance, MD

Bio

Dr. McCance serves as Co-Director of Spine Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital. He is a graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Dr. McCance completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Minnesota Spine Center in Minneapolis, and is board certified in both orthopaedic surgery and spine surgery.

Dr. McCance was recognized in a national survey of physicians as one of the "Best Doctors" for spine surgery in 2003. He has since been selected by numerous peer reviewed organizations including  "America's Best Doctors," "New York Super Doctors," "America's Top Physicians,"  and he has been the recipient of the “Patients’ Choice Award.”. Dr McCance was noted as one of New York City’s “30 Top Doctors” by NY Resident Magazine.

Dr. McCance has enjoyed practicing spine surgery in Manhattan for the last 14 years, and has personally performed over 3000 spine surgeries. He is the Director of Spine Associates, one of the busiest spine surgery practices in Manhattan. Dr. McCance spends three to four days a week in the operating room. He has particular expertise in complex reconstructive spine surgery including revision cervical and lumbar surgery, scoliosis and spondylolisthesis. Conditions commonly treated by Dr McCance include herniated disk of the cervical and lumbar spine, spinal stenosis, low back pain, scoliosis in children and adults, spondylolisthesis, spinal fracture, tumor and infection.

Dr. McCance has authored numerous articles in the field of spine surgery, on topics including cervical and lumbar surgery, scoliosis, and sports-related spine injuries. He has presented his research at both national and international meetings, and is a member of the North American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.
