He completed his doctoral education at Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis Missouri. CRANIOFACIAL PAIN

Dr. Tamura practices Neuromuscular dentistry using the Myotronics K7 Computer Diagnostic System. The K7 utilizes ESG (Electrosonography) to visually show on the computer screen TM Joint sounds. Pathologic joint sounds can be quantified as well as identifying their timing (early, mid late) in the opening and closing cycle. The K7 computer system also allows for monitoring EMG’s of 8 muscles of the head and neck simultaneously. When this is combined with Magnetic Spatial Location (Jaw Tracking), we can determine the relationship of the upper to lower jaws that has the least amount of muscle activity. This is the patients Neuromuscular Position, and usually is the healthiest intra-TM joint position as well. Because the center of rotation of the lower jaw is at the junction of C1 and C2, placing the lower jaw in the correct relationship with the base of the skull has shown to align the Cervical Spine and correct C1/C2 subluxations.

SLEEP DENTISTRY

In Doctor Tamura’s work with his Craniofacial pain patients he has noticed that many of them have compromised airways. This has led him to the study of Sleep Disordered Breathing. Sleep Apnea in the US often goes undiagnosed even though it has been scientifically shown to cause increases in blood pressure, high cholesterol, incidence of stroke and cause gastrointestinal problems such as GERD. Dr. Tamura can screen patients for apnea using a Watch-Pat 2000, take home sleep monitor that can be plugged into a computer the next morning and will print out a sleep report for him to review with his patients.

NEUROMUSCULAR ORTHODONTICS

Dr. Tamura performs Neuromuscular Orthodontics on adults and children .

PERFORMANCE ENHANCING SPORTS ORTHOTICS

Using the principles of Neuromuscular Dentistry, Dr. Tamura can make mouthpieces for athletes that increase their strength, range of motion, vertical leap, speed and flexibility. Athletes who wear Dr. Tamura’s patented Optimizar sports orthotic increase oxygenation while competing or working out have increased stamina and can go longer and farther with less muscle fatigue.
