Peter Bongiorno, ND

Bio

Dr. Peter Bongiorno is co-medical director of InnerSource Natural Health and Acupuncture, with thriving practices in Long Island and New York City. He specializes in preventive care and difficult-to-treat chronic conditions using natural medicines and acupuncture.

Before medical school, Dr. Bongiorno researched in neuro-endocrinology as a pre-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health and at Yale University, then trained at Bastyr University for his naturopathic doctorate and acupuncture degrees.

He teaches at NYU, the Natural Gourmet Institute, and guest lectures Mount Sinai School of Medicine and other area medical schools. He is an invited guest at conferences across the country. Peter serves as Vice President of the New York Association of Naturopathic Physicians where he passionately works towards licensing naturopathic physicians in New York State. He was chosen naturopathic physician of the year in New York State in 2008.

A major contributor to the 3rd and 4th edition of the Textbook of Natural Medicine, Dr. Bongiorno was invited to write the Alternative Medicine chapter in the textbook The Biology of Depression, and has recently authored his own textbook Healing Depression: Integrated Naturopathic and Conventional Therapies for Depression.
