Lawrence Friedman

Bio

Lawrence S. Friedman, M.D., earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine combined BA/MD program. He did his residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Since 2003, Dr. Friedman has been chair of the Department of Medicine at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Newton, MA, and assistant chief of medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is the author of approximately 350 papers and chapters on all aspects of gastroenterology, co-editor of Sleisenger and Fordtran’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease , Handbook of Liver Disease and Essentials of Gastroenterology. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Distinguished Educator Award from the American Gastroenterological Association.
