Are there alternatives to a root canal?
Of course, but they are not good. The need for root canal therapy means that there is an infection present or potentially going to be infected, therefore you must remove the offending agent, the tooth. You always have the option of doing nothing, but you risk infection and bacteremia (infection...  Full Post

    How successful are root canals?
I have read in the literature 85% 10 year success rate if General dentist performs it and 93% if a specialist (endodontist) performs the root canal therapy. This is going off memory from ONE study performed, although I have heard many other results ranging from 85% to 95%. The ADA is a great resource...  Full Post

    Are root canals painful?
Most of the horror stories you hear are because the tooth has died off and is causing extreme throbbing pain that radiates and requires a root canal. The root canal procedure itself has minimal discomfort i.e. staying in the dental chair for long time and holding your mouth open. Other than that...  Full Post

It depends where in the mouth we are talking about. Like my collegue said, most of root amps take place on multi-rooted posterior teeth, but can sometimes be necessary on an anterior (smile zone) bridges. In this case the tissue may die back and cause unsightly esthetic issues. Most of the time this...  Full Post

A dentist that has proper training surgically as well as prothetically is who will look out for your best interest. Same thing with a tooth, there is inflammation present and you need to stay away from the tooth for a while. Sometimes the tooth requiring
