Why does gum recession cause teeth to feel so sensitive?

Gum recession exposes the root of your tooth. Tooth roots have a different covering than the top part of your tooth. It's a little like the difference between touching a hot oven rack while wearing an oven mitt (the top part of your tooth) vs. with your bare hand (the root of your tooth).

    Does teeth whitening hurt?

How do dentures stay in place in the mouth?

Most complete dentures stay in place by closely fitting to the underlying gum and bone tissue with a thin layer of saliva between your gums and the denture. The more surface area, the better the seal. This is why upper dentures tend to have fewer problems than lower dentures.

When should I call the dentist after getting a silver dental filling?

You should call your dentist if you are experiencing pain after having hot beverages or food. Sensitivity to heat may mean the nerve of your tooth is dying, and you need a root canal.

You should also call your dentist if your bite feels off or high or if you feel like you're hitting the tooth first

Should I use a particular type of dental floss?

Though there are many different flosses on the market, they all pretty much do the same thing, so it's more important to buy a floss you will use.

Unwaxed floss is not coated with anything so it tends to be thinner, which some people find easier to get between teeth, and it will squeak when your

How can diet help me in preventing tooth and gum disease?

Sugars activate bacteria in your mouth and the bacteria then produce the acids that cause tooth decay. Each sugar exposure creates about 20 minutes of acid. So limiting how often you have sugars or starches will reduce the chances of cavity development.

Also limit foods high in acids (citrus fruits,

Will my dentures need to be replaced eventually?

Yes. Once you've lost your teeth, the underlying bone constantly changes. As the bone shrinks, your denture will not fit as well as it did at first.

Using your dentures will often wear down the denture teeth and decrease your chewing ability, which is another reason to replace them.
