Jeffrey Dalin

Bio

Jeffrey B. Dalin, D.D.S., a St. Louis native, has been in private practice in St. Louis for the past 30 years. Dr. Dalin is a 1980 graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry. He was a former clinical instructor in the Department of Operative Dentistry at Washington University School of Dental Medicine. He has earned Fellowships from the American College of Dentists, the Academy of General Dentistry, the International College of Dentists, and the Academy of Dentistry International. He also earned a Geriatric Oral Health Fellow from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Over the years, Dr. Dalin has published numerous articles and lectured on various subjects such as EatingDisorders, Geriatrics, High Tech Digital Dental Equipment, and the Internet. He was the editor of St. Louis Dentistry Magazine for twenty years and is a spokesperson for the Missouri Dental Association and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society. He is also the author of a monthly column for Dental Economics Magazine. His articles have appeared in numerous publications across the country. Jeff served as a member of 3M-ESPE's Council on Innovative Dentistry for the past five years.

In the fall of 2001, Jeff along with a committee of dentists from the Greater St. Louis Dental Society, planned and implemented Give Kids A Smile, a program designed to deliver full service dental care to children who do not have access to dentistry. In February 2002, his dream became reality with the first Give Kids A Smile Clinic. This Clinic runs for two days in February and two days in October. Over 9500 St. Louis area children havereceived over $4.3 million dollars worth of dental care in the nineteen clinics that have taken place. Jeff took the concept of Give Kids A Smile to the American Dental Association and they adopted it as a national children's access day. In February 2003, over 1 million children were seen in over 5000 sites and $100 million worth of dental care was delivered. The first Friday of February has been adopted by the American Dental Association as National Give Kids ASmile Dental Access Day. He is the Secretary-Treasurer of St. Louis Give Kids A Smile and serves on the National Advisory Board for Give Kids A Smile for the American Dental Association.

Jeff has won numerous dental journalism awards from the International College of Dentists. He has also won Awards of Merit and Distinguished Service and the Gold Medal Award from the Greater St. Louis Dental Society. For his work with Give Kids A Smile, Jeff has been given the Dentist of the Year Award from the Missouri Dental Association, a Presidential Citation from the American Dental Association, the World of Children Award in Health, the Edward Shils Entrepreneurial Education Fund Award, and the Bank of American Hometown Hero Award. He has been given special recognition by the Missouri State Senate, the State House of Representatives and the Missouri Dental Board. Most recently he was given the Maynard K. Hine Award of Recognition by the Indiana Dental Association in recognition of the distinguished contributions to the public and to the dental profession.

Jeff and his wife, Debbie, live in Chesterfield, Missouri with their three children: Jamie (23), Zachary (20), and Andy (17).

    Is using a toothpick good or bad for my teeth?
    A toothpick can be used to help dislodge food particles but you have to be very careful when you use one so that you do not hurt your teeth or gums. It really does not clean off plaque. Brushing and flossing are the best ways to remove plaque.  Full Post

    Does teeth whitening solution remove tooth enamel?
    If whitening or bleaching materials (gels or solutions) are used as directed, they should be completely safe on your enamel. Problems occur only when these materials are overused.
