Bio

Elif Oker, MD, is a medical director for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL).   Dr Oker spent nearly a decade in clinical practice including as an assistant professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Medicine and attending physician at the UIC Medical Center.

Dr. Oker has extensive experience providing medical perspective and educating audiences on a host of news media outlets, from XM satellite radio, WRCR-AM New York and WCBN-FM Ann Arbor, to WBBM Chicago, Healthin30.com and Remarkable Woman Magazine.  She also has spoken extensively in a number of venues, including the Chicago Bar Association, Professional Women’s Club of Chicago, Women of the World Chicago, the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Chicago Health Executives Forum.

A graduate of the University of Michigan's combined undergraduate-medical school program (Inteflex), Dr. Oker completed her residency in Emergency Medicine and fellowship in Toxicology at UIC.  She is a diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. She also is a member of the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of Medical Communicators.
