Bio

Debbie Nogueras, Ph.D., ANP-BC, FNP-BC has had a career that has gone from the bedside to the boardroom. Prior to heading to Northern Arizona University, she worked in the acute care setting as a rehabilitation nurse and the Miami-Dade, Florida community as both a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner, providing health care to adults and children both in the private sector and free healthcare center. During her career, she has served as a faculty member and administrator at Miami-Dade College and Barry University Schools of Nursing.  Her service to our community has included school-based health as a volunteer school nurse with the Miami-Dade County Public Health Department; leader at the local and county levels of PTA; grant-writer and consultant to the Heiken Children’s Vision Fund (Miami Lighthouse for the Blind) and Switchboard of Miami, Inc.  Nogueras was a two-time appointee by Governor Bush to the Children’s Trust Board of Directors, and Chair of the Children with Disabilities sub-committee in Miami-Dade County, an oversight board that approves the expenditure of $65 million per year in public tax dollars on children’s issues in the county. Debbie has also served as a director for Youth Ethics Initiative where she was a co-chair of the Academic Advisory Board and later became the Executive Director and co-creator of the Ethics Curriculum Project; a unique collaboration with University of Miami Ethics Programs, and open-source curricula for young adults to learn critical thinking about ethical issues in real life situations.  Dr. Nogueras is board certified as an adult and family nurse practitioner and brings to Fortis College School of Nursing, Miami over 15 years of experience in quality healthcare, grant writing, accreditation, nursing education, leadership, curriculum development, and evaluation. She has published and presented internationally on topics such as nursing retention, community engagement, nursing ethics, and cultural awareness.
