Thanks for the reply. My first walk was 3.5 miles and the second was 5 miles. One of the walkers talked about walking cream that you put on your feet before the walk. Have you ever heard of that. Yes, I had walked that far before and never had a problem. It was my fastest time ever , Yea, It was a blast. I have already started training for the race in August. Look at Portland to Coast on the internet and you can see what it is about.

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner. How far was your walk? Did you ever walk that far before when you were training. Distance, pace and even the layout of the course can play a factor in your blister develpoment. I know many people that trained for the Susan G 3-day, and by the time they were done completing the 3-day, their soles looked like a battle field. You may want to look at sole inserts the next time. Good job and keep it up!

    Hi Robin,

Hi Charlie, thank for writing on wall. I have been a walker for 1 year now. I was in a race last year. Portland to coast. and I was very well trained to the race. After my first leg I ended up with a huge blister on the bottom of my foot. I had trained in these shoes for at least 1 month and never had a problem. I also had on walking socks. This was the only time I ever got a blister on my foot. I still had another leg to walk of 5 miles. I put a band-aid on on and finished the walk. Can you think of anything that I could have done to prevent the blister.

What are other alternatives to aerobic activity and strength training?

There are MANY things you can do! Play with your children; take the stairs instead of the elevator, cut grass using a push mower, shovel snow, park further away from your work. Like Dr. Mike Clark says, "The world is your gym!"
