Sharecare Partners with the President's Challenge to Promote the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award
(Atlanta, GA – July 25, 2011) – Sharecare today announced that it is working with the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN) through the President's Challenge to promote the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA). PALA is a six-week physical activity program for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to jumpstart or maintain a healthy lifestyle.
In partnership with the President's Challenge and in support of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign to end childhood obesity, Sharecare encourages all Americans to enroll in their "Move It and Lose It" program by August 22, 2011. To earn the PALA through the Sharecare challenge, adults must engage in physical activity for 30 minutes a day, five days per week for six out of eight weeks. Each participant must log their physical activities at least five times per week for six weeks between July 18, 2011 to September 30, 2011. Daily physical activity should be tracked at www.sharecare.com/ChallengeYourself.
"We are excited to leverage the power of Sharecare to motivate more Americans to focus on their health by being physically active," said Shellie Pfohl, PCFSN Executive Director. "We are hopeful that the enthusiasm and participation of Sharecare's many high-profile friends and elite trainers will inspire people to get moving and stay fit for life."
In addition to tracking their activity, PALA participants using the Sharecare website have access to personalized menu and diet information, food and exercise logging tools, exercise programs with video tutorials and real-time progress reports to reach their goals. Furthermore, more than 450 Sharecare-certified Elite Trainers will engage with PALA participants on www.sharecare.com/ChallengeYourself to answer their questions, provide encouragement and offer additional tips and expertise via personal blogs and Q&A content.
"The PALA program is a simple way for Americans to get motivated and track their success towards achieving a healthy lifestyle," said Jeff Arnold, chairman and chief architect of Sharecare. "We are excited to play an integral role in the program by allowing participants to have easy access to Sharecare experts who can be their personal coaches, help them through the process and answer any questions they have along the way."
All participants who complete the requirements will receive a certificate of achievement endorsed by Sharecare and signed by Emmy award-winning and nationally syndicated talk show host, Dr. Oz. In addition, participants will gain free access to the features and expert program support within Dr. Oz's online "Move It and Lose It" program.
Launched in 2010 and based in Atlanta, GA, Sharecare's mission is to greatly simplify the search for high-quality healthcare information and answer the world's questions of health. Created by Jeff Arnold and Dr. Mehmet Oz, in partnership with Harpo Studios, HSW International, Sony Pictures Television, and Discovery Communications, the Sharecare interactive social Q & A platform allows people to ask, learn and act upon questions of health and wellness.
