When a woman experiences chest pain or chest discomfort that lasts more then five minutes she should seek emergency medical treatment. It is very important if a women experiences any of the following signs to seek medical treatment and not delay. Shortness of breath, chest discomfort, pain in jaw/back/arms, nausea, vomiting, profuse sweating, extreme fatigue and feeling of lightheadedness. Women often dismiss these signs and wait to seek medical treatment due to embarrassment.

The HHS’ Office on Women’s Health reports that women will delay calling for help when they may be having a heart attack compared to men. Women, like men, must seek treatment immediately and not delay.

Symptoms include unusual chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath, pain or discomfort in the upper body, unusual tiredness, nausea, lightheadedness, and a cold sweat.
