Is there a wireless Holter monitor for detecting atrial fibrillation?

Dr. Michael Roizen answered:Yes, but it may not be “wireless” in the sense you’re thinking.
A Holter monitor is a device used to check your heart’s electrical activity. It’s like the electrocardiogram (ECG) machine your doctor uses in the office, except you carry it with you on your belt or in your pocket for a few days (or even a month!).
A wireless Holter monitor still has those darn wires connecting the electrodes to the receiver. However, it uses wireless cellular technology to transmit data about your heart’s activity to your doctor’s office or a company that collects the information. Doctors typically use wireless Holter monitors for patients who may have infrequent bouts of AF and need to wear a monitor for several weeks.

Dr. Douglas Severance answered:A wireless Holter monitor is worn the same way as a standard Holter monitor and can be used to detect occasional atrial fibrillation. Both types of monitors are used to continuously record electrical activity of the heart for 24 hours to 48 hours. The wireless monitor uses wireless cellular technology to transmit the recorded EKG directly to your doctor's office. Sometimes the wireless Holter monitor is worn for weeks until you exhibit symptoms of heart rhythm problems. You will still need to keep a journal and write down any unusual heart rhythm symptoms you feel.A wireless Holter monitor is worn the same way as a standard Holter monitor and can be used to detect occasional atrial fibrillation.
