Helping clients track and monitor progress is one of the most important jobs of a health and fitness professional. Fitness professionals are trained and armed with the documentation and tools necessary to not only monitor the progress, but also assist with small corrections throughout the program to achieve the best result. Fitness professionals can also assist with goal setting. Achieving weight loss can often be a long, hard but very rewarding road. Having a professional there for motivation and guidance is often the difference between success and failure.

Yes a good personal trainer should keep track of your progress from the first session to the last. Keeping accurate records helps the client stay motivated and excited about the progress they are making. Documentation of weight, body fat measurements, and resting heart rate are great ways to track progress. Ask your trainer about the exercises and weight amount you are using week to week to gauge accuracy and progress.

Any great trainer will totally track your progress.  The trainer will help you keep track of your resistance training program, cardiovascular program and meal planning.  Also they will do regular check ups on weight, measurements and body fat.  As your body changes the trainer will be able to see by this progress how to change up your program to take you to the next level.  Having this accountability to someone will really help you out.  Great trainers stay on top of their clients and help them along with way so they always see results and help them through the hard times as well.

    Absolutely.

During your first session, your trainer will discuss your fitness goals, measure and weigh you.  He may also ask you to log what, when and how much you eat for three days to get a handle on your eating habits.  That way he can provide suggestions to benefit your workout experience.  Your trainer will keep logs of resistance and cardio training.  About every four weeks your trainer will weigh and measure you to check your progress toward your fitness goals.  He'll make adjustments in your program as needed to better accomplish those goals, such as switching exercises, changing tempo, or opting for a total body workout each session instead of working on different muscles groups each time.

Your trainer also keeps on top of any specific health issues you may have to make sure you're getting the proper workout to prevent injuries.   So, it's important for you to let him know of any health concerns.

All of this information is important for tracking your progress and keeping you motivated.

Part of a trainers job is to track client progress. Before the start of the first session there is a brief conversation of what your goals are and what you need to do to attain them. Both subjective and objective information is taken and noted in order to get a better understanding of who you are.

Subjective information is stuff like your hobbies, your work life, your attire and things like this. Objective information is what we use to measure your success. Things such as heart rate, weight, measurements and blood pressure.

Once you begin training, your trainer will record your objective information approximately every other week. This is enough time to have progressed towards your goals.

A quality personal trainer should not only track your progress through the use of periodic assessments, but also provide you feedback and tweak your program based on the results. These results should also be used to help formulate your next steps to work toward in achieving your long-term goal. The series of steps are very helpful in showing you your own progress and help to keep you motivated between assessments.

The trainer also has a vested interest in tracking your progress. You are paying this professional to help you reach a specified goal. If you are not getting closer to achieving that goal, you have no motivation to continue utilizing their services.

Yes. It is super easy for a personal trainer to track your progress. At the initial visit your personal trainer will probably have a thorough assessment process that may include your resting heart rate, your weight, your body fat, your girth and any other measurements that he/she feels are important to your particular journey. These are measurements that only need to be taken every 4 -6 weeks. However, during your workout sessions your personal trainer will also record your sets, reps, weight used, distance traveled, or duration of a certain exercise. These will show you more short term goals or progress that you are making in the meantime. They can keep track of the paperwork as well as any math that may be involved.

An exercise contract is generally made with a fitness professional or coach to help you be accountable for your goals and what you need to do to move forward. Exercise contracts can include: start date, end date, long term goal(s), short term goals and a positive reward for reaching your goal. You sign and date it and it stays in possession of the fitness professional or coach to be revisited each week. The contract gives you and the fitness professional or coach a way to stay on track and a point of conversation about successes, obstacles and challenges.

Once the contract is set up a personal trainer will work with you to self-monitor. Self-monitoring in exercise means being aware of all the impacts of exercise: physically and psychologically of how that exercise is effecting you. Once you are aware of the positive impacts of exercise you can continue to move in that direction. Once you are aware of any negative impacts of exercise you can change or rearrange them so as to move in a more positive direction. You begin to realize you have physical and psychological control over what you are doing which provides a sense of increased self-confidence and motivation.

The best ways to track a fitness plan is by using a calendar, a journal or designing your own specific, tailored fitness worksheet that includes spaces to chart food, sleep, physical and emotional aspects of your exercise so that you can see your progress.
