    Challenge America answered:

Traumatic brain injury is different for each person. So where rehab takes place depends on the type of brain injury, any other injuries, and the person’s health. Early intervention with TBI is important to increase the chance of recovery and boost functional outcome. Doctors develop a personalized rehabilitation plan based on each individual’s particular needs and strengths.

Usually rehabilitation is started immediately in the hospital or as soon as the person with TBI is stabilized.  Exactly what rehabilitation entails depends on the severity of the traumatic brain injury, along with any other trauma that may have happened. Also, the rate of recovery with rehabilitation is different for each person, depending on the severity of the brain injury and the person’s ability to follow the individualized rehab program.

If you suffer a severe TBI, you may be admitted to a Military Treatment Facility or a civilian hospital. If your TBI is mild, you may be able to do outpatient rehabilitation once you are stable
