Why should I see a doctor if I have joint pain?
-
Dr. Grant Cooper answered:If you have joint pain, you should see your doctor to find out why. Only your doctor can give you an accurate diagnosis, and thus prevent you from receiving the wrong treatment. Many problems besides osteoarthritis can cause joint pain and/or stiffness, including other types of arthritis, infection, bone disease, cancer, fracture, and injury to the ligaments. Treatment is specific for each disease and for each individual. Your doctor can look at your medical history, perform a comprehensive physical examination, and order the necessary tests.
