Why shouldn't I quit methadone "cold turkey"?

    You should not quit taking methadone "cold turkey" -- that is, all of a sudden. Doing so could cause withdrawal symptoms, such as:
    • sweating
    • chills
    • muscle pain
    • restlessness
    • runny nose
    • watery eyes
    • yawning
    Talk with your doctor if you want to stop taking methadone. He or she will probably have you slowly take less and less of the drug until you can safely stop altogether.
