The two main problems with perfectionism are that it feels so darned satisfying and that it’s highly prized and rewarded. In a society whose excesses have excess and that willfully turns a blind eye to dysfunctional imbalance and disregulation, perfectionism is often viewed as a very fine thing indeed. Go the extra mile, do it ’til it hurts, sacrifice, more is better, no pain no gain. Once again, culture plays its part in spinning an unhealthy behavior into a near divine attribute.
