Many packaged foods -- cookies, crackers, and potato chips -- contain trans fats because they give food a longer shelf life. A lot of cookies and crackers claim to be "baked, not fried" or to have "no cholesterol," implying they are healthy when they are, in fact, chock-full of trans fat. It doesn't matter if a food is baked or "cholesterol-free"; if it contains trans fat, it will damage your arteries.

Packaged foods contain trans fatty acids because this type of fat increases their shelf life and make food crispy and tasty.
