Dr. Bonnie Lynn Wright of Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) answered:Nurses have ranked very high for a long time regarding trustworthiness by the general public all over North America in the least. In my opinion, there are several reasons for this:
- Nurses are well educated and know where they can access up-to-date information when they need it.
- Nurses are guided by a code of ethics that requires them to know both their capabilities and their limits so they are honest with both themselves and others.
- Nurses know that establishing a trusting and therapeutic relationship with clients is essential
- Nurses are taught how to teach, listen actively and assist others to learn how to manage their own health.
These are some of the reasons why the public sees nurses as trusted sources of health information.
