Patients are often surprised when they begin tracking their headaches. They often find that their headaches are actually more frequent and disabling than they had thought. It can be a real eye-opener to count up the days you missed from school, work, or family activities, and then add in those additional days that you were much less productive because of headaches.

Diaries can help show you headache patterns and whether your treatments are working or not. Recording headache severity several times daily will give you a more complete picture of your headache pattern than using a once-daily severity recording. Be sure to bring your calendar to every visit with your healthcare provider to help determine what's happening with your headaches.
