If your baby's eyes are goopy and watery, it may be a problem. In most cases, it is a condition where the tube from the eye down to the nose is obstructed because it's so small. That's called dacryostenosis. If your baby in the first few weeks of life often has a watery eye, or has some dried tears on the eye, and the eyelid is not puffy, and the eye is not red, it's more likely to be a blocked duct. This can go on up to 9 months. If during that period it goes away, it's considered normal. At 9 months, we would refer you to an ophthalmologist, or an eye doctor, to actually open up the hole to drain the tears, and that resolves the problem.
