Why would a dermatologist recommend fillers to a patient?

Dr. Patricia K Farris answered:Dermal fillers are one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate the aging face. Dermatologists recommend dermal fillers for softening lines and wrinkles. Fillers are great for treating laugh lines and marrionette lines and for those pesky lip lines that make your lipstick run. We also recommend fillers for patients who have lost volume in their face with age. We can enhance the cheeks, temples, chin and lips using dermal fillers. This approach gives the face a more youthful appearance.

Dr. Ellen Marmur answered:Every doctor has preferences about which filler to inject into which part of the face. These are based on everything from how the filler flows through the syringe (they all have differing viscosity levels) to how it feels or looks in a particular area of the face. Radiesse, for instance, has such heft and thickness that it provides ballast for strong areas such as the cheekbone, the jawbone, and the nasolabial folds. It's also great for men. For someone with fine features a doctor will probably use lighter, thinner fillers that are compatible with the patient's facial structure. Heavier, thicker ones in a delicate face can look like an artificial implant. The type of filler used varies with every patient.
