    There are several factors that contribute to your risk for heart disease and stroke. You cannot control your gender, your age, or your family history. However, you can reduce or control other risk factors. The fewer your risk factors, the lower your chance of having heart disease or stroke. If you have three or more risk factors, you are at risk for heart disease, possible heart attack, or stroke.
