    Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:
Your doctor may have been checking to see if you have a thyroid condition that may have been causing your erectile dysfunction (ED). For example, some thyroid conditions result in very low testosterone levels, which affect a man's sexual desire and can lead to ED. However, thyroid conditions are only a rare cause of ED. For about 4 out of 10 men with ED, the primary cause is cardiovascular; for another 30%, it's diabetes.

An undiagnosed thyroid problem may cause erectile dysfunction [ED]. The thyroid regulates production of the male sex hormone testosterone. An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) can cause low testosterone levels, which can cause problems getting and maintaining an erection, diminish desire for sex, and contribute to feeling sluggish and tired.

If tests show a hormonal imbalance, your doctor can treat your thyroid problem and boost your levels of testosterone with hormone replacement therapy.
