    Dr. Dean Ornish answered:

Estrogen increases the risk of both prostate cancer and breast cancer. It stimulates cell growth and proliferation, which, if unchecked, may lead to cancer. Estrogen also promotes inflammation as well as oxidative damage to DNA. One reason why being overweight increases the risk of both prostate cancer and breast cancer is that fat cells convert precursors of estrogen into estrogen. In other words, the more fat you have, the more estrogen you are likely to have.
