High-fructose corn syrup is a man-made ingredient that the body works harder to break down. When we eat this stuff, the result is digestive slowdown and increased risk of disease. Moreover, high-fructose corn syrup contains genetically modified (GMO) corn, so it's got unnatural ingredients in the corn that could create allergies and irritation, and have a negative impact on the body's energy. Stick to eating fruit and eating corn -- your body gets them because they are real food. Watch out for high-maltose corn syrup too. As people begin to avoid high-fructose corn syrup, the food manufacturers are getting crafty with new variations on the same theme. Maltose is just another type of sugar that's often man-made.

I would suggest reducing the intake of any added sugars, such as high fructose corn syrup. Research has shown that added sugars increase inflammation in the body and can increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes and other inflammatory conditions. I would choose a sugar substitute instead of an added sugar for sweetness.
