People who do not get enough B9 naturally (through foods like peas, oranges, spinach, beets, liver, beans, lentils, whole-wheat breads and cereals, brussels sprouts and asparagus) should consider a folic acid supplement. People with anemia will also benefit from a folic acid supplement. Pregnant women are usually prescribed prenatal vitamins that contain higher than normal doses of folic acid, due to the fact that it helps fetal development. Folic acid is often a part of daily multivitamins (especially for women), and can improve most people's health as it promotes new blood vessels and prevents anemia.
