     Like all proton pump inhibitors, Nexium is intended for people suffering from, or at increased risk for, disorders that produce excessive stomach acid. Other conditions that cause too much acid in the stomach, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, can be treated with Nexium. People at higher risk of developing gastric ulcers can take Nexium as a way to reduce the risk.
