Concerta should be taken by children and adults that are affected by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or narcolepsy. If you are experiencing restlessness, difficulty focusing, and impulsive behavior, you may have ADHD and be a candidate for Concerta. Concerta can treat ADHD by lessening the symptoms and making it easier to concentrate. Narcolepsy is a condition that affects your brain’s sleep center. People with narcolepsy may fall into a deep sleep without warning or feel the need to sleep excessively. Concerta stimulates parts of the brain to create more of certain substances that are needed to help you stay awake.

If taking Concerta, it is best if you are healthy and free of heart or blood pressure issues. Before taking Concerta you should talk to your doctor about all other medications you are taking and any personal or family history of heart problems. You may also need to have your blood pressure taken before beginning Concerta and continually checked while on Concerta.
