    Stacy Wiegman answered:

Ambien CR (zolpidem tartrate extended-release) should be taken by adults. If you are having trouble sleeping, then Ambien CR may help with the symptoms of insomnia. Older adults may take Ambien CR, but in smaller doses, to help them get to sleep or stay asleep. Only adults who are able to dedicate a full seven to eight hours to sleep following a dose of Ambien CR should be taking the drug.
