You should not take atenolol if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant soon, as atenolol can harm a developing fetus. If you are breast-feeding, atenolol may not be recommended. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding speak with your doctor about other options. Also there is the risk that, if you are diabetic, atenolol will hide the symptoms of low blood sugar. Other conditions that may create an additional risk when combined with atenolol include asthma, seasonal allergies, kidney disease, and a history of congestive heart disease.
