Who is most at risk for acquired hydrocephalus?

Acquired hydrocephalus is caused by head injury or an obstruction in the brain, such as a tumor. Therefore, you are at higher risk for this condition if you regularly participate in activities that may cause head injuries, or do not wear head protection. Untreated infections of the central nervous system can also cause acquired hydrocephalus. Make sure that you treat any infections to help prevent this condition, which is life-threatening if left untreated.
