    The vast majority of patients who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) don't have a family history of the disease or any particular genetic syndrome. Patients who eat a diet that's high in fat and low in fiber are at higher risk. There are a few inherited genetic syndromes that place patients at very high risk for developing CRC. Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) is a disease that's characterized by multiple aggressive polyps throughout the colon, and results in essentially 100% risk of developing CRC, usually by age 40. Gardner's syndrome and Hereditary Non-polyposis Colorectal Cancer syndrome are both also associated with a significant risk of developing CRC.
