    Nipple-sparing mastectomy is most useful for women with small breast tumors greater than 4 cm away from the nipple-areolar complex. It may be substituted for a lumpectomy, axillary nodal dissection, and radiation therapy. In general the final cosmetic breast result is improved with maintaining the skin and the nipple.
