Brian Yee answered:The fact is the majority of people will experience back pain some time in their lives. The concern is whether the pain will debilitate someone from living a functional life. There are many factors that can lead to re-occuring back pain...this could be obesity, lack of exercise, family history, etc. The largest population of people to experience back pain, are those who have had multiple episodes of back pain already. Even though the patient's pain has subsided with rest, chances are the pain will come back again with potentially worsening symptoms.Helpful? 1 person found this helpfulThe fact is the majority of people will experience back pain some time in their lives. Riverside Center for Neurosciences answered:Nearly everyone has low back pain at some time. Men and women are equally affected. It occurs mostly between the age of 30 and 50, partly due to the aging process but also due to a sedentary life style with too little (sometimes punctuated by too much) exercise. The risk of experiencing low back pain from disc disease or spinal degeneration increases with age.
Low back pain unrelated to any injury or other known cause is unusual in pre-teen children. However, a backpack overloaded with schoolbooks and supplies can quickly strain the back and cause muscle fatigue. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that more than 13,260 injuries related to backpacks were treated at doctors' offices, clinics, and emergency rooms in the year 2000. To avoid back strain, children should bend both knees when lifting a heavy backpack, visit their locker or desk between classes to lighten the load or replace books, or purchase a backpack or airline tote on wheels.
